Tips

The aging mechanism of optical cables in tropical composite environments involves a synergistic deterioration effect caused by multiple environmental factors along the tropical coast. This effect continuously damages the structural performance of the polyethylene sheath at the molecular level, and is the core environmental cause of premature aging. Ultraviolet (UV) oxidative aging is the core source of damage. Extreme intensity UV radiation can directly break the C-C and C-H molecular backbones of polyethylene, generating a large number of active free radicals and continuously causing oxidation reactions. This leads to the gradual pulverization, hardening, and loss of toughness of the cable adss sheath surface, forming numerous initial microcracks. High-temperature thermal aging accelerates the precipitation and failure of functional additives such as antioxidants and UV absorbers inside the cable adss sheath, damaging the sheath's original weather-resistant protection system and causing a continuous decline in the material's anti-aging and crack-resistant properties. High humidity and salt spray media catalyze crack propagation. Water vapor and salt spray particles penetrate into the micro-defects of the sheath, generating an osmotic pressure effect, reducing crack propagation resistance, and significantly shortening the failure cycle due to environmental stress cracking.
