Design of ADSS Optical Cable Structural Parameters
The parameter design of ADSS (All-Dielectric Self-Supporting) optical cable is a systematic engineering task involving multiple disciplines: mechanics, electrical engineering, and optics. Unlike ordinary optical cables, which only need to meet basic transmission requirements, an ADSS cable must, on this basis, perfectly adapt to the power tower environment and meteorological conditions where it will be installed.
1. Mechanical Strength Parameter Design
This is the most critical part of ADSS design, determining the "skeleton" of the cable. The design revolves around three core tension indicators:
- Rated Tensile Strength (RTS): The maximum tension the cable can withstand before breaking (unit: kN).
- Maximum Allowable Tension (MAT): The maximum tension the cable withstands under the most severe weather conditions (high winds, heavy ice) during its design life. It is generally required that MAT ≤ 40% of RTS. Under this condition, the optical fiber should have no strain and no additional attenuation.
- Everyday Stress (EDS): The routine tension on the cable under no wind, no ice, and average annual temperature. It is generally required that EDS ≤ 25% of RTS to resist long-term fatigue vibration.
- Ultimate Operating Stress (UOS): The safe upper limit of tension under occasional extreme conditions. It is generally required that UOS ≤ 60% of RTS. Under this condition, the fiber strain must be controlled within ≤ 0.35% .
2. Sheath Selection
- PE (Polyethylene) Sheath: Suitable for environments with induced potential ≤ 12kV, commonly found on lines of 35kV and below.
- AT (Anti-Tracking) Sheath: Suitable for environments with induced potential between 12kV and 25kV. It contains special anti-tracking materials that can withstand arc burns. It is suitable for 110kV and 220kV lines. It is not recommended to install ADSS cables on lines above 220kV.
