Tips
The stress concentration triggering mechanism during construction:
Residual concentrated stress introduced by illegal small-radius bending during construction was the direct triggering factor for the localized concentrated cracking of the sheath. After the fiber optic products was forcibly bent, the outer side of the sheath was subjected to tensile stress for a long time, while the inner side was subjected to compressive stress, forming a fixed stress concentration area. During the long-term overhead service of the optical cable, the residual stress from construction, the reciprocating stress from wind vibration, and the stress from thermal expansion and contraction due to diurnal temperature differences continuously superimposed. After the sheath material lost its toughness due to environmental aging, the micro-cracks in the stress concentration area rapidly extended and penetrated, eventually forming longitudinal through cracks. At the same time, the invisible scratches on the surface caused by bending and dragging during construction provided diffusion channels for ultraviolet corrosion and moisture penetration, further accelerating the aging and failure process of the sheath.
