Standardized Ducting and Laying Operations

Duct Preparation & Lubrication: Before pulling the cable through conduits, verify that the duct is clear of debris. Use appropriate cable lubricants to reduce friction. Never force or pull the cable excessively if it gets stuck.

Smooth Traction: Maintain a slow and steady pulling speed. The cable should be fed from the top of the reel, maintaining a relaxed arc. Slow down significantly at corners and bends to prevent twisting or tangling.

Thermal Expansion Allowance: For outdoor installations, account for thermal expansion and contraction. Leave a slight sag (e.g., 2.5 feet of sag per 150 feet of span) to prevent fiber breakage or increased attenuation due to temperature fluctuations.

Splicing, Grounding, and Lightning Protection

Grounding of Strength Members: For armored cables, the metallic strength members must be reliably grounded. It is recommended to ground them outside the network enclosure to prevent high-voltage surges from damaging indoor equipment.

Waterproof Sealing: For water-blocking cables, use water-blocking gels or grease to seal the cable ends. This prevents the water-blocking materials from leaking out and ensures long-term moisture resistance.

Wall Penetration Protection: When routing cables through walls or floors, install protective bushings to prevent sheath damage. Seal any gaps with fire-retardant putty or sealants to ensure a smooth, moisture-proof finish.
