Important: Safe Unloading Guidelines for Wooden Reels
Dear Valued Customers,
To ensure the integrity of your fiber optic cables and the safety of your personnel, please strictly adhere to the following unloading guidelines. Improper handling of wooden reels can cause severe internal damage to the fibers, which may not be immediately visible.
❌ STRICTLY PROHIBITED (Do NOT Do This)
Never Drop or Throw the Reel: Dropping a wooden reel, even from a short height, can crack the wooden flanges, crush the cable layers, or snap the internal fibers.
Never Lift by the Flanges: Do not attach chains, ropes, or forklift forks directly to the wooden side boards (flanges). Wooden flanges are not designed to bear the full weight of the reel during lifting and will easily break.
Never Lay the Reel Flat: Always keep the reel in an upright (vertical) position. Laying it flat can cause the bottom layers of the cable to be crushed under the weight, leading to permanent attenuation or breakage.
Never Push Off the Truck: Do not push the reel off the truck bed to the ground.
✅ RECOMMENDED HANDLING PROCEDURES (Do This)
Use a Forklift Correctly: Insert the forklift forks through the center axle hole of the reel. Ensure the forks are fully extended and padded to prevent splintering the wood. Lift slowly and evenly.
Use a Crane with a Spreader Bar: If using a crane, always use a spreader bar and soft lifting slings attached to the center steel axle. This ensures the weight is supported by the axle, not the wooden flanges.
Use a Ramp for Manual Unloading: If unloading manually, use a sturdy wooden plank as a ramp. Secure a strong rope through the center hole of the reel to control the descent safely. Never let the reel free-fall.
Store Upright on a Flat Surface: After unloading, store the reel vertically on a flat, solid, and dry surface. Avoid storing on uneven ground or soft soil where the reel might tip over.
Post-Unloading Inspection
Upon receiving the goods, please immediately inspect the wooden reel for any transit damage (e.g., broken flanges, crushed edges). If any damage is found, do not pull the cable. Please take clear photos and contact our sales team immediately for guidance.
