Full Introduction to the Structure and Applications of Composite Cables
Photoelectric composite cable (also known as hybrid photoelectric cable) integrates optical fiber communication units and power supply units within a single outer sheath. One single cable realizes high-speed optical signal transmission and equipment power supply simultaneously, eliminating two separate wiring procedures for optical cables and power cables. It is widely applied in 5G communications, security monitoring, transportation, power systems, offshore wind power and other fields.

1. Three Core Components: Optical Unit, Power Conductor Unit, Strength Member
(1) Optical Fiber Unit (For Signal Transmission)
Optical fiber: G.652D single-mode fiber is the mainstream type, with fiber counts ranging from 2 to 144 cores, featuring wide bandwidth and immunity to electromagnetic interference. Fibers are cased in PBT loose tubes filled with water-blocking jelly. Excess fiber length is reserved inside the tube to resist bending, prevent water ingress and reduce micro-bending loss.
(2) Power Conductor Unit (For Power Supply)
Conductor: Oxygen-free copper core (commonly used for low resistance); aluminum core is adopted for a small number of long-distance layouts. Cross-sectional area ranges from 1.5 to 120 mm². Insulation layer: PVC insulation with rated voltage of 300/500 V and 450/750 V, supporting 48 V DC remote power supply and 220 V low-voltage AC power supply.
(3) Central Strength Member (Tensile Load Bearing)
Non-metallic types: FRP glass fiber and aramid yarn (lightweight, suitable for indoor use and lightning protection scenarios without metal components).
2. Intermediate Protective Layers
Water-blocking filling / water-blocking tape: Fills all gaps in the cable core to block longitudinal water vapor penetration.
3. Outer Sheath (Outermost Layer)
Black PE sheath: General-purpose for outdoor deployment, UV-resistant and resistant to extreme temperatures (-40℃ ~ +70℃)
