All dielectric self-supporting optical fiber cable is designed with optical fibers, ripcord, fiber jelly, water-blocking yarn, FRP reinforcement elements, and a PE outer sheath, providing reliable mechanical strength and environmental protection.

Classification and Applications of Optical Fiber
Optical fibers are primarily classified into Single-Mode Fiber (SMF) and Multi-Mode Fiber (MMF) based on light propagation modes.
Single-Mode Fiber (SMF) has a tiny core (8–10 µm) allowing only one light path. It offers near-zero chromatic dispersion and very low attenuation, making it ideal for long-haul telecommunications, submarine cables, and metropolitan area backbones (MAN). Key standards include G.652.D (the most common), G.655 (NZDSF for WDM systems), and G.657 (bend-insensitive, crucial for tight indoor routing in FTTH networks).
Multi-Mode Fiber (MMF) features a larger core (50 or 62.5 µm) supporting multiple light paths. While it suffers from modal dispersion limiting distance, it allows cheaper transceivers. OM1/OM2 (legacy 1Gbps) are largely phased out. OM3/OM4 (laser-optimized) are standard for enterprise LANs, data centers, and storage area networks (SAN), supporting 10G/40G/100G over short distances (up to 550m). Emerging OM5 (Wideband MMF) is designed for short-wave division multiplexing (SWDM) to support higher speeds like 400G in hyperscale data centers.
