**Basic Knowledge of Optical Fiber Water-Blocking Tape**

**Water-blocking tape**

Water-blocking tape is a key water-blocking accessory wrapped outside loose tubes of outdoor optical cables, replacing traditional wrapped water-blocking yarn. It is compounded with super absorbent polymer and polyester base material. Once contacting infiltrated water, it expands rapidly to form compact colloid, blocking water flowing along cable longitudinal gap.

**Water-blocking tape advantages**

It has stable performance under high and low temperature, no corrosive ingredient to fiber and cable structure. Compared with water-blocking yarn, water-blocking tape features uniform wrapping, better integral waterproof effect and simpler automated production process. Layer-stranded large-core outdoor cables mostly adopt full wrapping water-blocking tape structure to improve whole-section waterproof ability, reducing hidden danger of longitudinal water seepage along cable trunk lines.
