Fiber Optic Patch Cords (Fiber Jumpers)

A fiber optic patch cord-also known as a fiber connector-is a length of fiber cable terminated with connector plugs at both ends to facilitate detachable optical connections. If terminated with a connector at only one end, it is referred to as a pigtail. Structurally similar to coaxial cables, fiber patch cords lack a braided shielding layer. At the center lies the glass core through which light propagates. These cords serve as indispensable passive components​ in optical communication systems, primarily used for non-permanent connections between devices, between devices and test instruments, between devices and fiber infrastructure, and between fiber segments themselves.
