# Complete Introduction to GYFXY Duct Optical Cable

 

## I. Meaning of Model Letters (National Standard YD/T 769)

**GYFXY = Central Tube Type Non-metallic Unarmored Outdoor Optical Cable**

- G: Outdoor Communication Optical Cable

- Y: Polyethylene (PE) Outer Sheath

- F: Non-metallic Reinforcing Member (FRP Fiberglass Rod)

- X: Central Loose Tube Type (Single Loose Tube)

- Y: Unarmored, No Metallic Armor Layer

 

 

## II. Internal Structure (From Inside to Outside)

1. **250μm Colored Fiber Optic**: A single tube can hold up to 2-12 cores (mainstream 2/4/6/8/12 cores), commonly using G.652D single-mode fiber.

2. **High-Modulus PBT Loose Tube**: The tube is filled with fiber optic water-blocking grease for buffering, waterproofing, and hydrolysis resistance.

3. **Longitudinal Water-Blocking Tape/Yarn**: Wraps the loose tube, achieving longitudinal waterproofing for the entire cable.

4. **Double Parallel FRP Non-Metallic Reinforcing Core**: One fiberglass rod on each side of the loose tube provides full tensile strength; **no metal throughout**.

5. **Black PE Outer Sheath**: UV resistant, high and low temperature resistant, abrasion resistant, suitable for outdoor duct installation.

 

## III. Core Product Features

1. **All-Metallic, Electromagnetic Interference Resistant, Lightning Protection** No steel wire or aluminum strip; ideal for pipelines near high-voltage cables, substations, and in mountainous areas prone to lightning strikes. It does not induce lightning current, requires no grounding, and eliminates the risk of cable breakage due to lightning strikes.

2. **Smaller Outer Diameter, Lighter Weight, Significant Advantages for Pipeline Installation** Smaller core count than GYTA and GYXTW, resulting in lower installation resistance. Suitable for low-voltage conduits, community low-voltage wells, municipal micro-pipes, and shared low-voltage conduits.

3. **Complete Water-Blocking Structure** Double waterproofing with internal grease and a water-blocking layer on the cable core, ensuring long-term stability in damp and water-accumulated underground environments.

4. **Wide Temperature Range Stability** Operating temperature: -40℃ to +70℃, suitable for use in both frigid northern regions and high-temperature southern regions.

5. **Mechanical Specifications (Standard 12-core specification)**

- Long-term allowable tensile force: 600N; Short-term tensile force: 1500N

- Long-term compressive force: 300N/100mm; Short-term compressive force: 1000N/100mm

- Static bending radius ≥ 15 times cable diameter, dynamic bending radius ≥ 30 times cable diameter

6. **Low cost, longer reel length** Simple structure, no metal armor, lower cost than armored optical cables; single reel can reach 2/3/4km, reducing joints.

 

 

## IV. Applicable Scenarios (Primarily for pipelines, but also suitable for overhead installation)

### 1. Pipeline Laying (Most Common Application)

- Municipal low-voltage power networks, underground PVC/HDPE pipelines in residential areas, low-voltage manholes

- Power trenches, high-voltage cables laid in the same trench (non-metallic, does not interfere with power, does not attract lightning)

- Underground micro-ducts from computer rooms to buildings, underground pipeline networks in industrial parks

### 2. Auxiliary Overhead Installation (Requires matching suspension lines, cannot be self-supporting)

Urban and rural low-voltage power pole installation, power pole installation of optical cables (dedicated to high-voltage areas)

 

### Unapplicable Scenarios

1. Direct Burial (No steel tape armor, pressure resistant, rodent-proof; direct burial must use GYFXY53 armored version)

2. Large-span overhead installation without suspension lines (No self-supporting structure; ADSS is suitable for long-span overhead installation)

## V. Comparison with Common Optical Cables

1. **GYFXY vs 1. **GYXTW**
Both are centrally bundled conduits; GYXTW is **reinforced with metal wire**, making it susceptible to lightning strikes and electromagnetic interference; GYFXY is double FRP non-metallic, offering lightning protection and interference resistance, making it the preferred choice for power/high-lightning-rate pipelines.

2. **GYFXY vs GYFTY**
GYFXY: **Single centrally bundled conduit**, with 2-12 cores, small outer diameter, and smooth pipe insertion;
GYFTY: **Layered loose-sleeve conduit**, capable of producing 24 or more cores, suitable for main trunk large-core pipelines.

3. **GYFXY vs GYTA**
GYTA has an aluminum metal sheath, posing a risk of electromagnetic induction; GYFXY is all-medium, and only GYFXY can be used in high-pressure trenches.

## VII. Construction Precautions

1. The pulling force of the duct should not exceed 1500N for short periods to avoid FRP stretching and damage to the optical fiber;

2. Increase the bending radius at bends in the duct and manholes to avoid flattening;

3. For underground water accumulation and damp ducts, a high water-resistant reinforced GYFXY type can be selected;

4. For ducts with severe rodent infestation, it is recommended to replace with the armored non-metallic model GYFXY53.
