Tips
GYXTY is an outdoor communication optical cable with a centrally bundled tube, steel wire wrapped armor, and polyethylene sheath. Its unique steel wire wrapped structure provides rodent protection and it is widely used in pipeline and overhead laying scenarios.
Structure of GYXTY (Inside Out):
Fiber Optic: 250μm coated fiber centrally located in the core.
Loose Tube: Made of high-modulus polyester (PBT), encasing the fiber optic cable.
Tube Filler: Special waterproof grease inside the loose tube, providing essential protection for the fiber optic cable.
Water-Blocking Material: Additional water-blocking layer (water-blocking cable grease or yarn) outside the loose tube for longitudinal water resistance.
Steel Wire Armor Layer: Multiple (usually 12) phosphated steel wires twisted and wrapped around the loose tube-this is the core rodent-proof design of GYXTY.
PE Sheath: Outermost extruded polyethylene sheath, resistant to ultraviolet radiation.
Steel Wire Wrapped Armor – The Core of Rodent Protection:
This is the key design difference between GYXTY and GYXTW cables.
GYXTY uses multiple phosphated steel wires twisted and wrapped around the loose tube, forming a dense metal armor layer. This hard steel wire layer effectively prevents rodents from penetrating and damaging the internal optical fibers when gnawing occurs.
GYXTW uses a double-sided plastic-coated steel tape (PSP) longitudinal wrapping combined with parallel steel wires on both sides. This design focuses more on lateral pressure resistance and moisture protection, but its rodent protection is less effective compared to the steel wire wrapping of GYXTY.
Central Loose Tube Compact Structure:
All optical fibers are housed within a single loose tube, creating a compact design with a small outer diameter and lightweight profile. For instance, cables with 2-12 cores have an outer diameter of about 7.7mm and weigh approximately 76kg/km, facilitating easier installation.
Double Water-Blocking System:
Inside the loose tube: a special waterproof compound directly protects the optical fibers.
Outside the loose tube: water-blocking cable paste or yarn fills the gaps between the steel wire and the loose tube, providing longitudinal water blocking.
This dual defense ensures long-term stable performance in humid environments.
Special Treatment of Phosphated Steel Wire:
The steel wire wrapping is phosphate-treated, which enhances bonding strength and corrosion resistance between the steel wire and cable core. The phosphate layer also acts as a rodent repellent due to the odor sensitivity of rodents.
Excellent Rodent-Proof Performance:
Multiple phosphated steel wires are twisted and wrapped tightly to form a dense armor layer that rodents cannot chew through. This makes the cable particularly suitable for areas with severe rodent infestations, which is why the GYXTY cable is named "rodent-proof."

For areas with particularly severe rodent infestations or where stronger protection is needed (such as direct burial scenarios), the GYXTY53 model is recommended. It enhances the GYXTY design by adding a double armor structure consisting of a PE inner sheath, PSP steel strip longitudinal wrapping, and PE outer sheath. This upgrade significantly improves rodent resistance and pressure endurance, with tensile strength reaching up to 1000N long-term / 3000N short-term.

Before warehousing, materials undergo 12 rigorous tests, such as tensile strength, temperature resistance, and flame retardancy. Substandard materials are strictly rejected, eliminating potential quality risks at the source.
Process Monitoring and Standardized Manufacturing: Our production line features an online monitoring system that collects key parameters in real time, including fiber attenuation, sheath thickness, and core roundness. This data is automatically uploaded to the MES system, ensuring full traceability throughout the production process. Each reel of optical cable passes through eight quality inspection checkpoints before leaving the factory, including OTDR bidirectional testing, mechanical performance testing, and environmental adaptability testing. Test data is permanently archived, guaranteeing that every reel meets GB/T 7424.1 and the highest industry standards.

Bending loss in optical fibers is influenced by several key factors: a smaller bending radius leads to exponentially increased loss; longer operating wavelengths, such as 1550nm and 1625nm, face greater bending loss; single-mode fibers are more susceptible to bending than multimode fibers; and structural design elements, including core size and refractive index distribution, significantly impact bending resistance.
