Why have overseas sales of domestic Chinese optical fibers also increased sharply?

Faced with a global market supply gap, domestic Chinese optical fiber products, supported by cutting-edge technology and robust delivery capabilities, have become the main force to fill the global demand gap. Data shows that Chinese fiber manufacturers saw their overseas sales jump more than 55% year-on-year in the first quarter. Especially in North America, Southeast Asia and other regions, their backlog orders have been booked out until the first quarter of next year.

"The sharp rise in overseas sales of domestic optical fibers is a reflection of comprehensive industrial strength," Professor Gu Rentao analyzed. First, breakthroughs have been made in core technical barriers. Chinese enterprises have fully mastered the three mainstream optical fiber preform manufacturing technologies: PCVD (Plasma Chemical Vapor Deposition), OVD (Outside Vapor Deposition) and VAD (Vapor Axial Deposition). Cutting-edge technologies such as hollow-core optical fibers have reached world-leading standards. Second, domestic manufacturers enjoy prominent advantages in cost and delivery cycles, backed by a complete local industrial chain, with a much faster response speed than European and American manufacturers. In addition, a stable global supply network is another key factor: through global localized production layouts, Chinese enterprises have strengthened supply chain resilience amid the complex international environment.

Statistics show that Chinese manufacturers currently account for over 60% of the global optical fiber and cable market share, and around 70% of the world's total optical fiber preform and optical fiber production capacity. As the industry leader, Yangtze Optical Fibre and Cable (YOFC) is the world's only enterprise that masters all three mainstream preform technologies simultaneously, achieving 100% optical preform self-sufficiency and holding an 80% to 90% market share in the high-end G.654.E optical fiber segment. Other key companies including Hengtong Optic-Electric and Zhongtian Technology also hold leading positions in preform self-supply and specialty fiber sectors.
